28th Amendment

America -

I love this country and the ideas that it was founded on, that man would be free to pursue happiness -that there would be protection of property rights and individual freedom and finally that there would be a constitution to limit the role of government - a document protecting the people from the abuses that have been in every other previous form of government throughout history.

Those founders - that small group of men, Jefferson, Adams, Hamilton, Madison, Franklin, Washington, Hancock, an a few dozen others rose up and declared to the world that they would build a new nation - that they would shape their world into the vision they saw i their brilliant minds - and then leave it as a gift to their children - who in turn would need to earn their heritage.

Lincoln's generation stood up and reclaimed their heritage to throw off slavery and bring justice and right-ness back to this country. What followed was the greatest span in our nations history. Not until Teddy Roosevelt, Woodrow Wilson and FDR each imposed counter-American anti-capitalist, ideas did our country begin to falter. We today in 2008 and seeing the effects of those causes. Simple cause and effect.

Don't give up the ship!

The situation we find ourselves in today is rapidly declining. Government is speeding towards a bring wall, and instead of applying the brakes, they have stomped on the accelerator, telling us that what we need is more government intervention, more government regulation, more taxes, less corporations, more government programs, more spending, more entitlements, lee free speech, less freedom, more government oversight, more government ownership of private corporations.

We need to take back control of government - to tell these dolts that this country belongs to us, not to government! What we need is less regulation - elimination of government ownership, of government oversight, huge reduction of government spending, a phaseout of entitlements - a reduction of taxes - a simplification of the tax code - and a 28th Amendment.

My proposal for a 28th Amendment:

Restrict the right to vote in Federal Election (State voting rights can be different) to the following:
1.) Any and all Military personnel (They have earned above all of us, the right to have their say!)
2.) Police and Firefighters - Same reason
3.) Federal Tax payers (not just tax filers - but all who's money go to the Federal government)

This would serve the following purpose - Only those who have to pay for the bills passed can vote for them! This would help to prevent pandering to the non-taxpayers with promises of rewards for their votes (i.e.: entitlement programs)!

If you feel as I do, then contribute your minds, contribute your ideas and solutions - this country was established by just a few dozen people with will, effort, determination and a vision of what is possible.

We can make this country great again...

Hello Carl,

Interesting proposal. I agree that there certainly should be accountability built in so that one class of people cannot vote themselves the property of another. I have trouble disenfranchising voters, and would offer another suggestion. A flat tax (everyone pays). The idea that taxes should not be "regressive" releases lower earners from responsibility. While my first choice would be to eliminate the income tax altogether, I came across this article about Estonia, explaining how they have adopted free market principles since the fall of the USSR and are currently enjoying rapid growth. They impose the income tax on everyone and have it scheduled to go down every year. With everyone paying an equal percentage, public sentiment is always for lower taxes. In any case, it is sad that Estonia may have to show us the way back to capitalism! LOL!
